Field recording of birds in my neighborhood and backyard on the east coast of the u. S. I believe a cardinal is most prominent here, but i am not an ornithologist so cannot say for certain. Some smaller birds (finches?) also audible. Recorded through an open window of a screened porch with a tascam dr-40x. Raw recording; a bat crack from a nearby athletic field is audible.

Opening the back doors: first the storm door and then the main door. Main door closes followed by the storm door. Back door has a slight squeak. The glass-screen door is moderated by a hydraulic door closer which you can breifly hear hiss before the door slams shut. Recorded on a windows x8 phone and cleaned up in audacity. I use a screenreader, nvda. I decided to set it to the eti eloquence speech synthesizer and put the voice on the french voice. I then set the inflection to 50 and typed the letters "r" and "h" over and over to make it sound funny when it tries to read it. The first part is the normal voice, the second part i applied ring modulation with lots of lfo effect.

The sounds of solway's scrap yard on toronto's ernest avenue. It is an old industrial neighbourhood, rapidly gentrifying. The gentrifiers resent the scrapyard, but it was there first. You can hear the sounds of a mobile crane on caterpillar tracks dumping scrap into semi-trailers which will soon pull out for the steel mills of hamilton. As the trucks are loaded, the drivers chat in the background. Recorded with a roland r05 and a sennheiser mke 400 stereo mike with home-made wind screen on 30 september 2011.

At the close of the children's hospital telethon immediately after it was announced that more than $4 million had been raised, people on the phone banks started cheering, this as the closing credits were being run on the tv screen. This is non-descript cheering, my recording in a public setting having been invited as a journalist to be there to report for broadcast. There are no copyright issues associated with this recording. This is a recording of the scariest/weirdest computer crash i ever experienced. I was working in after affects when the screen froze and this sound started blaring through my headphones. I unplugged myself and let it play through the speakers then decided it was really neat sounding, so i took a mic and recorded it. This was a couple years ago but i never uploaded it because the recording didn't do it justice. I opened the file recently and thought it sounded kind of neat anyway, so here you go, internet. I recording made near some woods of the wind ebbing and flowing on an unusually mild day in late november of 2013. What i find unique about this recording is a lone cricket calling out at various times of this recording. . . Makes for a nice, almost melancholy feeling. It is almost like the cricket is not quite ready to hide away for the winter and is taking advantage of a rare 70-degree november day to call out as if to say "hey, i'm still here, waiting. . . In the grass. ". With headphones on, works wonders in clearing your head. . . Recording made at 6:30 at night with my handy / zoom h4 n recorder using the internal microphones, and of course using a very very stout wind screen. Enjoy.

My iphone died, but not completely. The screen was cracked, the battery was failing and it was difficult to make contact in the worn charging socket to charge it. It reset itself frequently and never stayed on in any temperature below 65 degrees f. So i downloaded my data and activated a new phone, but lo and behold, i couldn't turn off the old one. I would have to wait for the battery to run down. For once, the battery lasted. Two days later i listened to the alarm go off for ten minutes. My arms were full of laundry, and suddenly my backup alarm started blaring, loaded with an obnoxious ringtone. My back porch is concrete. My 16-ounce claw hammer was handy.

Clean, dry recording of a smartphone touchscreen being rapidly tapped as if a message was being written on it. Could just as easily be used as sounds from using (writing, playing mobile games, browsing, etc) a tablet or really any relatively small touchscreen device. Tapping speed and length between taps varies throughout the recording, but overall i tried to make it sound as natural as possible while still offering options for more granular placement. Recorded with an akg p170 into a tascam 208i audio interface at 48khz/24-bit. Microphone was positioned 5-6 inches away from source. A 120hz high-pass filter was applied to remove unnecessarily pronounced bass frequencies.

This sample is a vocal "arh" sound, pitch d. It was created by singing "arh" into a dynamic microphone, with pop-screen and recording, through an e-mu 1820, into cakewalk music creator pro version 2. The sample was then roughly trimmed. The sample was then imported into wavelabs lite where the dc off set was removed, the sample was normalized and the trimmed exactly. This sample was then imported back into cakewalk music creator pro version 2, compressed slightly, then duplicated 5 times. Each of these duplications was given slightly different attack and release times, different pan and different eqs. 1 sample was given a multiple voice chorus\flanger effect and another auto-pan. A 6 sample was then added before the main sample, with reduced gain. This sample has increasing volume envelope and "moving" pan envelope. All 6 samples where sent to the same master out where "chapel" style re-verb and compression was applied. The mix down from this was then imported into wavelad lite, dc off set removed and normalized.

Nature, and man-made machines, wake up on a saturday in a small town in southern illinois. Even though getting "away from it all" and experiencing nature in the deep woods, or a quiet field is very enjoyable, let's not forget that nature often lives and thrives side-by-side with us. I recorded this in my back yard on saturday april 27th, 2013 at 6:45 am and you'll hear the low, but everpresent low rumble of a distant train throughout. But, over and above you hear the incredible variety of calls and sounds made by a family of starlings who seem oblivious to the iron horse and the occasional car. We had rain the night before, so every now and then you hear a loud "plop" as a breeze cuts loose fat rain-drop and it hits the foam wind-screen on my h4n. Starting at around 3:47 and running to 4:08 a cardinal makes a strong appearance. I made this recording using my zoom h4n recorder, using it's internal built-in stereo microphones, with the recording gain on 81, out of 100. Enjoy!.

This is a recording of me vacuuming my carpet (a short carpet, not sure of the exact name of it), in a small studio apartment in kansas city, ks. It's recorded with the worst mic possible (a generic labtec microphone you can buy at an office supply store for like 10 bucks). I literally have no idea the vacuum brand, as i searched all over it for a whole minute, to no avail. But who cares the brand, because it sounds cool! (it has "120v~60hz 7amps" if that means anything to you) i am mainly vacuuming up kitty litter from the carpet because my cat likes to make sand castles for hours on end and she likes to think "outside the box" as it may. Oh, and there is an obstacle between the mic and the space i'm vacuuming, it's literally a screen room divider. I recorded this just because i thought it would be cool, plus i'm just starting an associates in audio engineering, so i figured i could get experience doing just about anything. Oh, and the end is my favorite part, just because i like listening to the motor click off and wind down. Ummm. . . Yeah, i think that's about it. Enjoy!.

August, 2nd 2013. About eight and a half minutes worth of summer evening ambience, with crickets and cicadas leading the evening songs. Nothing too eventful, but a nice finish to a great day. Recorded at 48khz, 24 bit. Stereo pair of behringer c-2s (cardioid). The mics have an on-board 3-position switch, with labels "flat," "low-cut," and "-10db. " the switch was set in the -10db position (whoops!). It is unclear if this position also activates the low-cut. Additionally, a 24db/oct low-cut applied in pro-tools at 80hz to clean up a slight wind ruffle. Since it was late at night, and the rest of the family was in bed, i opened my window and placed the microphones (almost) right up against the screen. The a/c unit you can hear is directly below the window. Around the 4:45 mark, the digital thermostat hit a programming mark and kicked the air conditioner back on.
